Aviary Construction – Brushing the easy way
Brushing the avairy can be done in all manner of ways such as polypipe, tins, wire and my method of plastic lattice. This method is by far the quickest and easiest of all the ways this can be done. It also allows for the brush to be removed easily and the plastic allows no pests to be harboured as well as the ease in a quick scrubbing to be ready for a new batch of brush. I find the support the lattice gives allows those less than professional builders to have the security of a plastic support system to allow for nests that may lack in strucural integrity. With this solid structure around the brush more nests can be built without the worry of excessive weight breaking the brush and falling to the ground. Also in many cases the lattice acts as a perching platform for those nesting birds as well as their offspring.
Tools needed are as follows:
The coat hanger wire is bent into a figure S to be used for hanging the baskets once complete. Packing pliers or wire are used to join the lattice into a cylinder and to close the bottom. Strong scissors or snips are for cutting the lattice to the desired size.
The images below are to show the result of building these brush towers and what they look like when in the avairy.
